Away league match played on 10 April 2011.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Glorious sunshine, gentle breeze and a newly cut pitch meant the scene was set perfectly for this top of the table clash.

Little motivation was needed but a quick reminder before the game of the comments that were posted on the Wymondley website after the home win earlier in the season was enough to ensure Weston got off to a sharp start.

With a full squad to choose from in a week where we have 4 games, team selection was not an easy task but a strong, physical team was pitched against the league leaders.

Weston got off to a high tempo start and played some stunning football with the opposition a little shell shocked by the pace and movement they found themselves up against. No 50/50s were being lost by the firm but fair challenges from a big, strong Weston team and the opposition started complaining a bit to the referee. This served as further motivation to the team in second place and the high level of possession quickly resulted in chances. Set pieces were always going to be a threat for Weston who had several target men to aim for and it was no suprise when Beard sneaked round the back and headed back to Bergman (of the Stuart variety) to finish from close range. A stunned Wymondley were never given time to settle on the ball with a strong pressing defensive performance from all 10 outfielders on the Weston team.

Another phase of passing lead to some intricate passing in the Wymondley penalty area which drew a clumsy foul that the referee had no option to judge a penalty. The Weston skipper picked himself up and finished confidently to put the visitors ahead by 2, a deserved lead.

Halftime came with Weston having enjoyed the majority of both possession and territory, a fabulous 45 minutes from the visitors.

With their position at the top of the league in jeopardy it was no surprise to see Wymondley improve their performance in the second half and their movement started to generate some openings against the leagues best performing defence. Wymondly started to play as you would expect the league leaders to play with more confidence on the ball and some good interplay between the midfield and front men. Despite the improvement they never really threatened the Weston goal until a lapse in concentration lead to a weak backpass that didn't reach Pugh in the Weston goal and was interecepted by the centre forward who beat the last defender to make it 2-1.

Weston were shaken into action and responded as all good teams do with a fabulous display of passing that cut through the Wymondley rear guard and lead to the easiest of tap ins for the Weston poacher, Duff.

The Weston defensive unit were then always in control and they closed the game down to an inevitable conclusion with a well deserved victory. It was a good game of football and both teams should take credit for the way they played.

With Weston having the easier run in all they can do now is win their remaining games and put the pressure onto FC Wizard who need to take 3 points from the huge number (10) of games they have remaining. Let's hope they can take the pressure as well as Rory McIlroy can!!!!
