Town Get Shots Away!

The team travelled to Aldershot for the second week running, this time to play Aldershot Girls. Previous results had been a tight 4-3 cup victory and an 8-2 league win in September.

The girls’ were clearly at it from the start with their attacking intent on a small 3G pitch, a pitch that suited the style of play, very similar to the area that the girls play tight 9v9 games on every Tuesday evening! If anything, in the very early stages, play was a little bit rushed, the team over anxious to perform, Liv settled things 4 mins in, finding the top corner of the goal from Megan’s assist (0-1). Aldershot needed to get a foothold in the game and they rode a bit of luck, first Emilia then Liv hitting the post and crossbar respectively. The home side did well to resist the pressure although with nearly 20mins played the second goal came and the floodgates opened, Emilia striding away and firing under the GK from Meg’s pass (0-2). A brilliant double save thwarted Emelia again but there was no stopping Brooke’s cross/shot that sailed in under the crossbar (0-3). Izzy entered the game midway through the half and immediately had an effect, first crashing a goal off the post from Emilie’s superb cross (0-4) before scrambling her second while lying on the floor! (0-5)…must be honest, going on what the girls said as missed this one! HT 0-5 After a run of really tight, tough games since the turn of the year in which the girls had deserved so much more than the two points they had amassed, the half time talk was what they wanted out of this match. 1. They could either wind down a bit and play players out of position etc etc…or 2. They could test themselves further, see their capabilities. They opted for number 2 and the defencive/GK team had opted for a potential clean sheet also. Liv again set the tone inside a minute, pressuring a mistake inside the goal area, turning and flighting a superb finish into the far corner of the goal (0-6). Izzy claimed her quick fire hat-trick, slotting through the GK’s legs (0-7). Meg struck another (0-8) before adding again from a bullet header, Izzy with the corner kick (0-9). Izzy’s run and shot meant for double figures (0-10) prior to two furthers goals from Emilia to give her a well deserved hat-trick on the day, another classy headed finish (0-11) before cutting inside to strike from Lila’s pass (0-12).

FT: A’shot 0-12 WTFC POM: Olivia (Set the team on their way with goals at the start of each half but was much more than just goals today. Held the ball up well and brought her team mates into the game)

Summary: Always difficult to analyse games like this but the standard of finishing was top draw, appreciated by both sets of coaches. Millie deserved her clean sheet, making sure with a smart save late on. In front of her, Eva lead her defensive troop of Sophie, Annabel, Lauren, Lila and Vienna, all stopping attacks at source today. Jess, Abi, Brooke dictated play. Izzy, Emilia, Meg and Liv reaped the rewards in front of goal. It must be said that Aldershot fought to the end in what was a difficult match for them, it would have been disrespectful to them to have changed things (given a goal, player off etc).

Well done to all!!
