Away league match played on 20 October 2012.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Once again we put in a fantastic performance today, and the result really doesn’t reflect that. I’m getting used to this, what with being a Liverpool fan ‘n all ;)

We started the game really strongly and took the game to Banbury.  Luke scored an early first goal to put us in the lead and narrowly missed another shortly after.  Banbury responded well, and it was turning into a great match.  Oscar hit a shot just high, but Banbury also kept up the pressure securing an equalizer after 18 minutes.  Luke was fouled just outside their box and the resulting free kick was strongly hit by Lewis but the wall did its’ job.

Banbury finished off the second half strong, scoring their second goal a few minutes before half time to make the score 2-1.

The second half Banbury came out where they had left off, forcing Iwan into some excellent saves.  We were losing the ball a bit in midfield so we reverted to two in defence with Conner moved up into midfield. This made a difference and we started to pressure Banbury, Oscar making great progress down the wing and Ollie, Adam, Jamie and Charlie battled well in midfield.  We were running the game now and Tom was making an excellent job in defence and as sweeper. But with 5 minutes to go we conceded a soft goal with a deflection that diverted the ball into our own net to make it 3-1. But our heads did not go down, oh no! Banbury found themselves under even more pressure and Ollie quickly got that goal back to make it 3-2.  For the rest of the match it was all Vikings, we had three corners and battered their defence.  Trust me, there was a big sigh of relief from the Banbury supporters when the final whistle went!   FT 3-2

This was a fantastic game, and we did play some really good football.  Communication was so much better, and when we looked up and passed the ball around we were cutting through their midfield with ease. If we keep playing like this the wins will come back. MOTM was awarded to Conner who had a great performance both in defence and midfield.  Thanks to Neil for taking notes so that I could write this, next time I’ll not wear wellies if I’m running the line.
