Young Stars travelled to Sedgefield to face Sedge United in a league away fixture on the morning of 2 August 2026, kicking off promptly at 10:00am. The 90-minute contest, overseen by referee Gotti, ended in a 3-1 victory for Young Stars, who produced a commanding display to secure all three points on the road.

Deploying a 4-1-4-1 formation, Young Stars set up with Jerome Boukers guarding the goal. The defensive line consisted of Seuna at right back, Zop and Arzi as central defenders, and Junior Juks on the left flank. Yanga operated as the lone holding midfielder, tasked with shielding the back four and recycling possession. Ahead of him, the midfield quartet featured Algin Kleynhans on the right wing, Rushine Davids and Lizzy centrally positioned as attacking midfielders, and Kiembie on the left wing. Leading the line was striker Ivandre Haaland, expected to spearhead attacks and convert chances. The substitutes bench remained unused during this encounter.

The match burst into life with Young Stars asserting early control. In the 25th minute, the visitors took the lead through Ivandre Haaland, who expertly finished from close range inside the box with his right foot after a neat short pass from Kiembie. This goal was a testament to the fluid attacking interplay between the left winger and the striker, setting the tone for the first half.

Just three minutes later, Sedge United’s frustration showed as one of their players received a yellow card for a bad tackle, signalling a physical edge to the contest. Young Stars’ defensive discipline was tested further in the 36th minute when Seuna was booked for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, a caution that underscored the intensity of the battle on the right flank.

Despite Young Stars’ early dominance, Sedge United managed to draw level in the 40th minute through a scrappy goalmouth scramble. The home side capitalised on a moment of chaos in the penalty area to find the net, restoring parity just before the break. The first half concluded with the teams locked at 1-1, setting up an intriguing second period.

The second half began with renewed vigour from both sides. Sedge United’s tempers flared early on as another player was cautioned for dissent in the 49th minute, reflecting their growing frustration against a well-organised Young Stars outfit. The visitors responded with composure, though Junior Juks was shown a yellow card in the 60th minute for persistent infringements, highlighting the physical nature of the left defensive role.

Young Stars regained the lead in the 67th minute when Algin Kleynhans struck with a precise left-footed finish inside the box, following a clever short pass from Ivandre Haaland. This goal showcased Kleynhans’ attacking instincts and ability to exploit space on the right wing, turning provider and scorer in quick succession.

Just seven minutes later, Kleynhans doubled his tally with a spectacular effort from outside the area, again assisted by Haaland. This strike not only extended Young Stars’ advantage but also effectively sealed the contest, demonstrating Kleynhans’ quality and composure under pressure.

Throughout the match, Algin Kleynhans was a constant threat, combining creativity and clinical finishing to earn the player of the match accolade. His partnership with Ivandre Haaland proved decisive, with the striker’s vision and passing unlocking the opposition defence repeatedly.

Young Stars’ disciplined defensive structure, led by the central pairing of Zop and Arzi, alongside the midfield shielding of Yanga, ensured that Sedge United’s opportunities were limited after the equaliser. Jerome Boukers remained alert in goal, providing a reliable last line of defence.

In the end, Young Stars’ tactical organisation and attacking prowess secured a well-deserved 3-1 victory at Sedgefield, marking a strong start to their league campaign on the road.
