The club was founded in 2008 by the merger of two local teams, Lytham St. Annes FC and Squires Gate Junior FC. The club's name was changed to AFC Blackpool with the permission of Blackpool Football Club.
AFC Blackpool have won the Lancashire Sunday Football League Premier Division twice, in 2011-12 and 2018-19. They have also reached the final of the Lancashire FA Sunday Cup on three occasions, in 2012, 2014, and 2019.
The club's home ground is the Blackpool Road North Playing Field in Preston.
