FC Chornomorets Odesa is a Ukrainian professional football club based in Odesa. The club's home ground is the 34,164 capacity Chornomorets Stadium opened in 1935 and rebuilt in 2011.
The club was founded in 1936 as Dynamo Odesa, but changed its name to Chornomorets in 1959. The club has won the Ukrainian Premier League once, in 1992, and the Ukrainian Cup twice, in 1992 and 1993.
Chornomorets has also competed in European competitions, including the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the UEFA Cup, and the UEFA Europa League.
History
The club was founded in 1936 as Dynamo Odesa, a sports society affiliated with the Soviet secret police. The club played in the Soviet Top League from 1946 to 1953, and again from 1958 to 1960.
In 1959, the club changed its name to Chornomorets, which means "Black Sea" in Ukrainian. The club has played in the Ukrainian Premier League since its inception in 1992.
Chornomorets won the Ukrainian Premier League in 1992, and the Ukrainian Cup twice, in 1992 and 1993. The club has also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1993.
Recent seasons
Chornomorets has finished in the top half of the Ukrainian Premier League in recent seasons, but has not won any trophies since 1993. The club finished in fifth place in the 2022-23 season.
