The league was founded in 1889 as the Sheffield & Hallamshire Football Association Senior League. It has been known as the EV2 Sportswear Sheffield and Hallamshire County Senior League since 2019.
The league currently consists of 20 teams, and each team plays each other twice in a season. The top four teams at the end of the season qualify for the promotion play-offs, with the winner being promoted to the Northern Premier League Division One East.
