Phoenix Academy AFC was founded in 2008 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The team started out in the Gwent County League and quickly progressed through the leagues. In 2015, the team won promotion to the South Wales Alliance League, where they have been competing ever since.

Phoenix Academy AFC plays its home games at Croesyceiliog Park in Cwmbran. The ground has a capacity of 500 spectators.
