More about the team

Early in 2012 along with my brother Les, we set up a five a side club. With no ideas of grandure, just a few mates looking to get some exercise we stumbled our way through the games in front of us only to realise 5 a side football wasn't for us. In fact you could argue any football related exercise wasn't for us. Reluctance to quit however and excuses for our indifferent performances led to an idea of playing on a bigger pitch where our individual failings would be less obvious.

Along with Tim Gargan, we used our 5 a side contacts to attract opposing players Simon Trotter, Scott Green and Ashley Harvey. Other players who signed on the dotted line included a few work colleagues who havn't played football before or since, an MMA fighter, 6 failed goalkeepers before the arrival of URBS, and Alan Franklin a teammate many years ago who was responsible for leading the line.

Our first seasons statistics; Played 22, lost 20, drew 1, won 1.

There is no getting away from the fact that the above performance is dissapointing. But what kept us going was what keeps me running the club today. Week in week out our committed squad members came back to our sponsored club, The Kemble. No matter what the score was (always worse than 3-0) we laughed it off together and tried in vein to right these wrongs...most of the time they were never corrected but I feel in these early days we developed a spirit which I feel Regency Town is about. An identity which I like to think has kept good men at the club. After an encouraging improvement in season 2, underlined by the commitment and outstanding performances of new players, Shane Flaherty, Paul Godfrey, Rob Bourne and Dale Chapman, we now look forward to not only being a club people enjoy being part of and playing for, but one which we enjoy seeing win and building successes with in future seasons.
