More about the team

The male staff of the Royal Gwent Hospital Radiology department.

"Team X-RAY. Where did it all start? Well I believe it was a joke to start with, honestly!

The idea came from somebody noticing, we had more male members of staff than ever before. Enough to start a football team. And there you have it, a passing comment in work, turned into a 8 aside game against Nevill Hall Hospital. Played at Cwmbran Stadium on a very cold evening after work.

Nevill Hall turned up with a few ringers in the squad. Newport County being short of one player that evening...

The first and original line up was.

Jason Elliott, Stuart Perrin, John Jourdan, Alun Davies, Mike Senese, Basil Wharton, Dan Wyn Jones and John ( The Legend ) Davies.

Also a special mention to Dylan ( 50 Shades ) Price, who was going to play for the RGH Team but Nevill Hall, as they have every time we have played them since, turned up with too few players. So Dylan said he would play for them. Hats off to him, as I remember we kicked lumps out of him.

Can I also say what a huge amount of support we had that day. The supports from both hospitals made the day even better. The Gwent won 3-2 Our first game and a win under the belts.

Nevill Hall wanted revenge. They didn't get it. Having turned up with less players than last time and having to recruit a couple of lads watching from the side. It didn't matter. The RGH won again. 2-0.

So there you have it. Thats how it started. And here is to the future of the Royal Gwent Radiology FC."
