Tengah United was founded in 2019 by a group of football enthusiasts who wanted to create a club that would represent the Tengah district of Singapore. The club's first season was in the Singapore National Football League (SNFL), the third tier of football in Singapore. In their first season, Tengah United finished in third place in the SNFL, earning promotion to the Singapore Premier League.
In their first season in the Singapore Premier League, Tengah United finished in seventh place. The club has since finished in sixth place in the 2021 season and fifth place in the 2022 season.

Tengah United's home stadium is the Tengah Stadium, which is located in the Tengah district of Singapore. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 spectators.
