Wednesday 1874 were founded in 1874 as Northwich Victoria. They changed their name to Wednesday 1874 in 1981.
The club have spent most of their history in the lower leagues of English football. They reached the FA Cup third round in 1983-84 and the FA Trophy final in 1989-90, losing to Altrincham on penalties.
In 2018, Wednesday 1874 were promoted to the National League North for the first time in their history. However, they were relegated back to the Northern Premier League at the end of the 2019-20 season.
