The league is divided into three divisions: Premier, First and Second. The top two teams in the Premier Division are promoted to the North West Counties League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the First Division.
The North West Youth Alliance is a valuable breeding ground for young footballers. Many players who have gone on to play professional football have started their careers in the league.
