Introduction

2018 (also known as 2018: Everyone is a Hero) is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language epic survival drama film about the severe 2018 Kerala floods that devastated Kerala. It is directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, who wrote the screenplay with Akhil P. Dharmajan, and stars Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Narain and Lal with an ensemble supporting cast.

The film was initially set to release on 21 April 2023, but it eventually released on 5 May 2023. It grossed over ?200 crore (US$25 million) at the box office, to emerge as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all-time and the eleventh-highest grossing Indian film of 2023.

Plot

The film is set in 2018, during the time of the Kerala floods. It follows the story of several people from different walks of life who are affected by the floods. The film explores the themes of survival, hope, and resilience.

Rameshan (Tovino Thomas) is a young man who is struggling to make ends meet. He is married to Anjali (Anu Sithara) and they have a young son.
Sethupathi (Kunchacko Boban) is a truck driver who is transporting relief materials to the flood-affected areas.
Noora (Parvathy Thiruvothu) is a television reporter who is covering the floods.
Lal (Lal) is a fisherman who is trying to save his family from the floods.

The film follows the characters as they navigate the challenges of the floods and try to survive. It is a story of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
