The league was founded in 1922 as the North Lancashire & District Football League. It was renamed the Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire & District Football League in 2019.
The league has been won by a variety of clubs over the years, including Caton United, Garstang Town, and Kirkham & Wesham.

The current season is the 2022-2023 season. The Premier Division is currently being led by Caton United, with Garstang Town and Kirkham & Wesham in second and third place respectively.
