Essex County Women's Football League

The Essex County Women's Football League (ECWFL) is an amateur football league for women and girls in Essex, England. It is affiliated to the Football Association (FA) and is the highest level of women's football in the county.

History

The ECWFL was founded in 1989 and initially consisted of just four teams. It has since grown to become one of the largest women's football leagues in England, with over 60 teams competing in the league today.

The ECWFL has a long history of producing talented players who have gone on to play at the highest levels of the game. Some of the most notable ECWFL alumni include:

  • Kelly Smith: England international and former Arsenal and Barcelona player
  • Jill Scott: England international and former Manchester City and Manchester United player
  • Lucy Bronze: England international and current Olympique Lyonnais player
  • Keira Walsh: England international and current Manchester City player

Current season

The current season of the ECWFL is the 2022-23 season. The Premier Division is currently being led by Stanway Pegasus Ladies, who are unbeaten in their first 10 matches. Bowers & Pitsea Ladies Reserves are in second place, while Chigwell Ladies FC are in third place.

The ECWFL also has a cup competition, known as the ECWFL League Cup. The 2022-23 League Cup was won by Bowers & Pitsea Reserves, who defeated Southminster United in the final.
