Introduction

La Liga is an amateur football league in Madrid, Spain. It was founded in 1976 by a group of British expatriates who wanted to play football in a more relaxed and informal atmosphere than the professional leagues.

The league currently has 12 teams, all of which are based in Madrid. The teams play each other twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 22 games per season. The top two teams at the end of the season are promoted to the Segunda División Madrileña, the second tier of amateur football in Madrid. The bottom two teams are relegated to the Tercera División Madrileña, the third tier of amateur football in Madrid.
