Abernant start the New Year with an emphatic win over fellow strugglers Temple Bar A with Dean Owens coming in as the new manager as Mark Anthony steps down as Abernants manager.
Both teams entered this match knowing that a win for either team would leave the loser in the relegation zone. the opening exchanges saw both teams attacking but it was the away team who opened the scoring from a set piece move, a long throw into the Nants box saw the ball bounce around in the box only for the away teams front man to poke it in to the net, 1 nil to the away team.
That seemed to wake the Nant up and two minutes from the goal saw Mario Scaiccia break into the Temples bar area who shot and the ball hitting the away teams defender on the hand, Penalty to the Nant, from the resulting penalty Mario coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net 1 all.
That goal seemed to spur the Nant on and it was all Nant with the next goal coming to the Nant, a great run By Mario Scaccia saw him split the away teams defence and a low powerful strike form a tight angle so the ball nestle in the away teams net leaving their keeper no chance of stopping it 2 - 1 to the Nant.
Abernant were now dominating the game with chance after chance and the next goal came by the way of a set piece for the Nant, a long throw in by Mario Scaccia saw Craig Stonelake poke the ball in with a slight deflection of the away teams defender 3 - 1 to the Nant,
Abernant continued with their attacking play and were rewarded with the another goal with great interlink play from the centre of the park which saw Ioannis Davies break into the box smashing the ball past the despairing dive of the away teams keeper 4 - 1 at half time.
Abernant made just the 1 change at the start of the second half with Nat Hagget making way for Karl Williams, Abernant carried on with where theyleft off from the first half with attack after attack leaving the away team camped in their own half as the outstanding centre halves Gary Owen and MOM Darren Blandon easily snuffing out any attacks the away team could muster and on the 59th minute Abernant scored again with a outstanding team goal with ball being smashed into the back of the net by David Day 5 - 1 to the Nant, it was all 1 way traffic and the Nant scored again on the 66th minute with another excellent team move starting from the back going through the whole team for the ball to be played by Ryan Thomas into the feet of Karl Williams who coolly rounded the away teams keeper and slotted into the open goal, 6 - 1.
The rest of the half carried with the Nant attacking looking for more goals and they numerous chances to extend their lead but the game ended with a very comfortable score line. Final score 6 - 1 to Abernant.
This result was a much needed win for the Nant who in recent weeks have had games of 2 halves where we have been poor in the 1st half and outstanding in the 2nd half only to leaving themselves too much to do, this win sees us climb out of the relegation zone and sees Temple Bar replace us, This was massive game for us which the players responded to, this was great way to see Dean Owens the new Abernants Manger in,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Mark Anthony all the best and thank him for his contribution to the team over the last few months.
Next game sees us take on Penwaun A away up in Penwaun.....
