The opening group game of the Memorial Cups against Kellys Gunners and the manager made a few changes from last week’s win over Cowboys. Liam Milne was missing due to a groin strain and Kris Irvine made his first start since breaking his ankle last year.

We were far from at our best in this match but we did manage to grind out the result to get the group off to a winning start. After a scrappy opening to the game, it was our opponent s that opened the scoring with a terrific finish form the striker to put them 1-0 up. This did give us a wakeup call and the next 15 minutes of the match was to produce our best spell as we started to move the ball about and we got the equaliser when Jack scored with a fine finish after being set up by Cammy. Two minutes later we took the lead when after the keeper saved big Mitch’s strike at goal, the rebound fell to Bellzo and after missing the ball with his wild first swing at it he then composed himself and smashed a volley into the roof of the net. After taking the lead we were then expected to kick on from that but for some reason things weren’t happening with too many misplaced passes happening all over the park.

HT 2-1

In the second half things went pretty much the same as the first but we were always in control of the game and finished it off with another goal apiece from young Jack and Ryan Bell. James then had two brilliant saves in quick succession. Firstly he saved brilliantly down to his right from a 25 yard free-kick and from the resulting corner he made a great point blank save from their striker’s effort.

FT 4-1
