Away league match played on 24 August 2013.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

The opening league match of the new season and we have been installed as title favourites for this season, probably rightly so after just missing out on promotion last season on the final day and also with the players we have added to the squad in the summer. We know we will have to be at our best every week if the title dream is to become reality though and were giving a tricky opener against another one of the promotion hopefuls Thomsons Accies but we got our campaign off to a great start with a fine display picking up three points and keeping a clean sheet. The gaffer went with a 4-3-1-2 formation to start the match.

               James

Millsy, Tam, Sharpy, Kris

     Deano, McBee, Ryan

              Jamie

         Mitch, Liam

Subs; Darren, Ecky, Mikey, Gareth, Simmy

It was our opponents who started the match the better and for the opening 15 minutes we were put under a bit of pressure although they didn’t create any clear cut chances. We gradually came into the match and once we got our foot on the ball we were playing some good football creating the better of the chances in the first half. Mitch had one of the best chances to open the scoring when he was put through on goal but he fired wide with his left footed effort. Probably the best chance of the first half fell to Deano after Jamie put in a great cross into the box but he headed wide from 8 yards out.

HT 0-0

We started the second half as we had finished the first and took a deserved lead when Paul McBrearty, who is in great form winning the man of the match award for the third straight match, whipped in a corner kick and big Mitch got on the end of it with a great header into the top corner. Their keeper was now being kept busy and he made a couple of good stops to deny us adding to the lead. Liam Milne then thought he had his name on the score sheet but his brilliant strike from the edge of the box came off the inside of the post and rolled along the line and out to safety. They were then reduced to 10 men 15 minutes from time when one of their midfielders was sent off for dissent. With just a one goal lead we were put under a bit of pressure in the final 10 minutes as they chased the equaliser but the defence stood firm and we got the league campaign off to a flyer.

FT 0-1
