Away cup match played on 27 April 2013.

The final group game of the memorial cup and 3 points were a must if we were to have any chance of progressing to the next round, although we would still have to rely on a result in our favour in the other group game. A few changes were made from Wednesday night’s game with Hutchy and Ryan injured, Ecky AWOL and Liam dropping to the bench for a rest.

In the last couple of weeks our performances have slipped a bit from our usual high standards but today we were much better than in recent games as we started with a high tempo, played well throughout the match and deservedly got the three points required. We got off to a great start and got an early penalty when the impressive Darren was fouled in the box and Mitch stepped up to slot the penalty into the bottom right corner. We then had further chances to add to the lead but couldn’t take any of them and were made to pay when they got the equaliser. Just before half time Craig Stewart nearly had a contender for goal of the season when he hit a terrific 45 yard volley but the keeper tipped his great effort over the bar.

 HT 1-1

We started the second half well and were always in control of the game. Craig then did get on the score sheet when his cross come shot went into the back of the net, a bit of luck with the goal but a goal we thoroughly deserved. As the game went into the closing stages Camperdown were also winning by one goal on the pitch beside us so we needed another goal and we got it with 5 minutes to go when Tam won the ball in the middle of the park and played it into Liam who set it up for Mitch and he brilliantly lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net. We thought this would be enough to see us qualify for the quarter finals but Camperdown scored in the final minute of their match to win 2-0 which means that with an identical goal difference and head to head we will now meet each other in a play-off next Saturday to see who qualifies for the quarters.

FT 1-3
