The final group game of the Adamson Cup and although we had no chance of progressing to the quarters, we were looking to bounce back after Saturdays disappointing performance and result. Again it was premier league opposition, this time against Hawkhill. Over the years they have been a real bogey team for us and are a team we just cannot seem to get the better of despite some brilliant closely contested games between the two of us. This one was no different as we once again lost to a very late winner. We made a few changes from Saturdays game with Hutchy, Mikey, Jamie and Ryan coming into the starting line-up replacing Bogger, Finlay, Darren and Craig.

               James

Millsy, Tam, Sharpy, Hutchy

Mikey, Ryan, McBee, Jamie

           Mitch, Liam

Subs; Darren, Kris, Ecky, Simmy, Gareth

The first half was a bit flat and at times we were struggling to put 2 or 3 passes together without losing possession. We were put under a bit of pressure in the first half and although we didn’t create too many chances ourselves, James never had a save to make in the first half as the back four were playing well reducing them to long range efforts off target.

HT 0-0

After the first half stalemate, the game burst into life in a very entertaining second half. They again started the better and deservedly took the lead shortly after the break. This goal gave us the wakeup call we needed though and we were soon on level terms with a well worked goal. Jamie played the ball up top to Liam who unselfishly laid it off for Darren to score. Minutes later we added another to take the lead. This time Jamie played in Liam with a brilliant through ball and Liam slotted it past the keeper into the bottom corner. They hit back again though to level the game up again. The game was now end to end and we had a couple of great chances to re-take the lead. Firstly Darren put a great cross into the box for Liam but he headed over the bar from 6 yards out. Paul “Xabi Alonso” McBrearty then nearly scored from just inside their half as he saw the keeper off his line and his terrific effort came crashing off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Simmy but he blazed it over the bar from 10 yards out. Then just as it looked like the game would end in a draw we failed to deal with a long ball into the box and the striker nipped in to score.

FT 3-2

We were all gutted at the final whistle after losing such a late goal and it was game that we didn’t deserve to lose in the end and although we were still not our best it was a much better performance from all involved.
