WALTON AND MEGYESI DOUBLES SECURE POINTS

BOLSOVER OLD BOYS RESERVES...2 BRITANNIA FC...6

It was back to League action this week after the exciting Cup comeback at Scarletts last week, and a couple of changes for Benny to make. In came Hardy into the back 3, with Goodwin moving to the forward line, taking over the Captains Armband and position of the absent Wright Coming into the midfield and making his welcome League DEBUT was NEW SIGNING Rickie Silcock to partner Shane Bennett.

The game started slowly on a wide pitch, in very good condition, and in fact it was a good 10 minues before a chance of note was created by either side, a great ball was sent up the wing by Mitchell, it was well controlled by Brown who worked a corner for the visitors, but the keeper punched away under pressure, this set the OB's away on a quick break, but the alert Furniss made a fine save. On 12 mins a short corner by Walton found Mitchell, who slipped the ball to Bennett, but his shot fizzed just wide.

The hosts caught the visitors napping on 14 mins, Miles somehow allowed the ball to slip under his foot just inside the Brits half and the striker raced clear, firing past Furniss, giving the keeper no chance. They almost went further ahead 3 mins later when the Blues defence falied to deal with a long throw into the box, and allowing the striker to turn and fire just over with the defence stood flat footed.

The first real chance for Britannia came on 24 mins, Bonson winning the ball out wide with a robust challenge and finding Megyesi whose strong run and shot was well saved. Then on the half hour Britannia scored 4 goals in a 9 minute spell that secured the game for them. First a corner by WALTON was nodded back to him by Mitchell, he carried the ball on to the edge of the box before SMASHING a shot past the keeper. On 35 mins, another corner caused a scramble in the hosts box, a shot by Mitchell rebounded to MEGYESI who stabbed the ball home. Just 2 mins later on 37 mins a defence splitting pass by Bennett set Brown down the line, he skipped past his marker, controlled the ball, before putting in a low cross that picked out MEGYSI, and he slid home his second of the game. 3 became 4 after 39 mins a great run by Mitchell saw him pick out Goodwin in the box, the skipper found DANNY BROWN with a crisp pass and the winger coolly bent a rasping shot past the keeper. This had the Old Boys rguing fine style, and they were certainly happy to hear the whistle for the break. HALF TIME Bolsover Old Boys Res...1 Britannia F.C...4.

Benny called for his team to push on in the 2nd half, and rack up the goal difference, but it didnt come to fruition, as it never matched the first 45 mins display. They did start brightly however Walton and Mitchell trading passes before the latter shot just wide. A mistake at the back by Miles saw the OB'S fire across the goal but the effort went wide.

Britannia added a 5th on 53 mins Megyesi was set free by another fine Bennett ball, he crossed for GOODWIN to stab the chance home. The performance then didnt come up to scratch with disjointed play ALL over the park. Furniss made ANOTHER great save just after the hour and at the other end the hosts keeper clawed away another effort. Mitchell went close on 70 mins, after great work by Goodwin, and Walton picked him out.

Old Boys went close again on 72 mins, a free kick into the box saw the visitors defence stood still AGAIN leaving the striker with a free header he put just over. A superb team move involving Goodwin, Walton and Mitchell saw Browns shot well saved after 78 mins. Britannia scored the BEST goal of the game with just 2 mins remaining, Mitchell held the ball up well in the corner before finding WALTON who looked up before lofting a sublime chip over the stranded keeper into the net. Bolsover scored what turned out to be a 2nd consolation goal in the final seconds, a corner was tipped onto the bar by Furniss, but the defence stood leaden footed and allowed the striker to nod home. At the final whistle the Brits management team had a slight disagreement, but we talked about it before deciding I WAS RIGHT and its all forgotten now.
