Home league match played on 10 October 2009.
Kicked off at 10:00 AM

A fantastic team performance today against the team currently top of the league.

The game started with Kidderminster Lions Cubs creating all the early pressure and within 3 minutes we found ourselves 0-1 down, following a corner the ball was only half cleared, and a long range shot beat Ben at the near post. This was the start that we really didn't want and we had talked about this before kick off how it was important not to concede early in the game. This was certainly not the start we had wanted. However the lads responded well and Sam and Owen with Dan playing in a holding roll just in front started to defend really well with Sam especially making some great interceptions and tackling really well. Jordan and Charlie were holding a great shape in midfield and KLC found it difficult to break us down. Ross was working really hard up front making some great runs and pulling their defenders out of position. It was a testament to the boys that KLC had to change their tactics and started kicking long balls into our box. Ben was superb in goal yet again and made some fine saves and his handling was as impeccable as ever. From another corner the ball was pumped high into the area and although Owen got up well to head the ball he could only deflect it into the top corner giving Ben no chance and the cubs took a 0-2 lead. Again the boys responded well and made some probing runs into the oppositions half and it wasn’t long before we got back into the game. Harry won the ball in midfield and found Ross with a long ball down the right channel. Ross held the ball up really well and found Dan, running into the box, with a superb pass. Dan lobbed the keeper and the crowd went wild. HT1-2.

The second half was a joy to watch with some great passing and moving from the boys, James and Ross were holding the ball up really well, giving precious time for the midfield to link up with our attacks. KLC were by this time unable to do anything other than pump long balls over the top, but again our defense was up to it with Sam inspirational at times. The game ebbed and flowed and after defending a couple of corners really well Charlie found Harry on the wide right. Harry played the ball inside to James, who turned his marker and found Jordan with a superb pass. Jordan ran into the box and skipped between two defenders and neatly placed the ball underneath the keeper to make it 2-2 with 4 minutes to go.

The last few minutes were quite frantic but again we defended superbly and created another chance of our own, finally the whistle blew and the lads got a well-deserved point.

Summary:

This was a superb performance today; the lads played some great football and worked hard for each other. They kept their shape right through the game and never gave up. To come from 0-2 down against the team at the top of the league shows the boys have at last got the self belief which should set them in good stead, for the remainder of the season WELL DONE LADS!!!!
