Home league match played on 27 March 2011.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Avonmouth came into today’s game knowing that a win would confirm them as champions of division 2. With this in mind the home team were quickly out of the blocks with all guns blazing. After only 2 minutes a great through ball by Sam Reynolds gave Mitch Harris a chance to score but his shot went just wide. However, 2 minutes later it soon became 1 – 0. Reynolds again put Harris in on goal but this time the striker sent a clever lob over the oncoming keeper & into the net.  Spurred on by the early goal Avonmouth started to play with great confidence & got their passing game into gear. More chances were created with Josh Beecham just firing wide & Harris being denied a couple of times by the excellent Bromley keeper – another save from a Harris header was superb. With so many chances a second goal had to come & eventually did after 22 minutes. A short corner by Harris found Lukas Tsiopani whose whipped in cross, found Luke French who then buried his close in shot into the net. Avonmouth continued to be on the front foot & just before the break another good run by Harris ended with him hitting the post with a rasping shot. During the first half Avonmouth had played some of their best football of the season & deservedly went in at half time with a comfortable lead.

Half Time: Avonmouth 2 Bromley Heath (A) 0

From the restart, Bromley came out in a more determined fashion & within a few minutes almost got on the scoresheet. Following a good Bromley move, keeper Callum Davis had to dive bravely at the advancing strikers feet to deny him a scoring opportunity. Although the influential Avonmouth defender Jack Hewlett was unable to play today the home defence were able to restrict Bromley to mainly hitting shots from outside the box & not creating any real chances to score. It took almost 10 minutes before Avonmouth had their first meaningful attempt of the second half when Reynolds had a shot saved by the keeper. Avonmouth could not match the quality football of the first half, however they regained control & further attempts by Harris, French & Montel Riches could not find the net. With 8 minutes left an excellent cross by Haydn Curtis left Harris with a free header, which went just over the bar. However, within 3 minutes it became 3 – 0. There appeared to be little danger but a Bromley back pass to the keeper was underhit & Harris was able to rush in & beat the keeper to the ball & after slipping past him was able to ease it into the back of the net.

After a long hard season the wait is finally over & Avonmouth can deservedly now call themselves division 2 champions & therefore gain promotion to the promised land of division 1 for next season. To do it with 4 games still left to play shows how consistently well the team has played this season. Congratulations to all the players, parents & the coaches Tony Beecham, Marc Hanson & Sean Day who have done a marvellous job this season. The whole team performed well today & the football produced in the first half was very good. They must keep this up for the remaining games to enable them to hit the next target of finishing unbeaten in the league this season.
