Barnet DFC 4

Caag Massive 4

We played our 6th league game against Caag Massive. Their home pitch is astro turf and knowing the game will be fast, quick tempo speed because surface is different. Barnet DFC adapts the playing feel of the pitch and played extremely well in first half. Zack and PJ were midfielder and linking up really well with Giddens behind them. They were playing 1-2-1 touch football then Zack saw Powe who was ready with his bursts of speed and Zack chipped over their defender and Powe broke through their defenders and slammed the ball bottom left corner, Goalkeeper stood still, no chance. 1-0. Our second goal came shortly after Barnet won a throw in on the leftside, Iron throw to Omar, lovely link with PJ, who then saw Powe available inside the box with loads of Caag Massive’s players surrounded the goalmouth, Powe easily sent the ball curling to the bottom right hand corner. Powe was on FIRE, 2 goals in 4 minutes, looking great in his new striker role, the bird is free out of its cage now! Barnet then started to play football, attacking more; Theron our goalie was making tea for everyone in the first half!

Defenders were passing along the pitch then Kevin spotted Powe making his run, Kevin whacked the ball from our defensive line to meet Powe’s feet, an absolutely superb ball from Kevin, Powe controlled the ball in one smooth motion, catching it with his heel and bringing it down in a straight line in front of him in one silky touch, and sent the ball screaming down the left corner to complete his first half hat trick to send Barnet DFC 3-0 up.

With the second half underway, Caag started to play football having shown complete disregard to the rules of football by bringing on 5 subs, in effect we were playing 16 men against 12 men! We are appealing this matter with the league, watch this space!

Anyway, they won a soft freekick and sent the ball swirling in the no man’s land air above Theron and one of their tall subs headed it in- 3-1.
A minute or two later Giddens was sent off for unsportsmanlike behaviour. We were down to 10 men but so were Caag Massive.
They started to press well on our defensive line which was straggling, and scored another two goals in quick succession, 3-3.

It was a wakeup call for us. We started to press harder, and won a freekick.  Powe stepped up in search for the elusive fourth goal, curled it, it hit the wall on a player’s hand, and shouts for handball were ignored. Again we won another freekick deep in our half. Kevin stepped up, hit a soaring ball upfield, Seb made a rapid run from the left hand side, bursting through the Caag Massive defence to meet the ball, their keeper was already some way out anticipating the low shot- but from a very tight, acute angle outside the left hand side of the area,  Seb hit a pearlier of a chip, meeting the ball with the outside of his right boot to send it in a smooth, swerving Brazilian banana to drop the ball tightly in the bottom right hand corner. It was a corker of a goal.

There were 10 minutes left, Barnet tried to keep the ball but again we gave away a soft free kick (we need to stop doing this!), Caag scored from another set piece and it was 4-4.

Barnet DFC deserve to hold their heads high as they battled well against 16 men in a unfair game, on unfamiliar turf and kept our league unbeaten streak to 3 games, it so easily could have been 3 wins, but we’re learning all the time! Bring on Bristol DFC this weekend!!
