Breachwood Lions Vs Broadhall

After Breachwoods fantastic performance and result against MBDA The Lions were in training bright and early Monday morning, there was a great buzz around the team and the entire village, everyone believing Breachwood could really achieve something special this season. Fildes seems to have installed a new never say die attitude in the team something they have lacked over the past few seasons.

Fildes training regime had come under some scrutiny during the summer but his strict and weird regime seems to be paying dividends on the pitch with Breachwood sitting 3rd in the league.  Although still early days Breachwood would never have expected to be sitting 3rd at any point during the season! Fildes has banned players from eating Ketchup with any meal, he makes the players watch videos of himself in his playing days so they can learn to play like him (in his eyes the most complete player) he also demands that players do not speak to him unless spoken to and at no point are players allowed to make eye contact with him!  One of the most peculiar requests of his regime is that he has had a mini Buddha like statue of himself made in the changing rooms, which the whole team pray to before games to get a result and they must kiss the feet of the statue before leaving the changing rooms.

Breachwood have finally found a role for the self proclaimed special one Richard Taaffe who earlier this week backed down over his transfer request and has said he is willing to fight for his place in the team, although he will most probably not play this season unless Breachwood suffer some mass injury problem by our reckoning he is 5th choice striker, he continues to show disregard to Fildes and his regime as it was reported he apparently warned Fildes not to forget about him this season, prompting Fildes to make Taaffe the official club linesman!

Kick off arrived and the game started with a very open first 15 minutes.  Breachwood looked nervous but slowly grew in to the game, Matt Kenneford causing a lot of problems for the Broadhall defence.  He was a constant thorn in their side all morning.  Breachwood finally got their breakthrough when they broke down the left, Moulding pulling the ball back to the penalty spot for DJ to place the ball beyond the outstretched keeper.  It looked as if Breachwood would runaway with the game now but within 5 minutes of the restart they gave away a silly free kick 30yards from goal in which the Broadhall centre-back curled beautifully in to the top corner, Blobby managed to get a hand to it but could not keep it out.  Breachwood looked shaken and suffered a dodgy 5 minutes conceding another goal after a neat turn and strike inside the box finding the bottom corner, again Blobby got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.  At this stage it looked as if The Lions were going to throw this game away but slowly they managed to get themselves back into the game, Matt breaking free again and finding the bottom corner only for the linesman to controversially flag for offside. Matt again cutting in from the left curled a delightful shot onto the cross bar with the keeper well beaten.

Finally Breachwood got the equaliser they deserved with Matt racing onto a through ball from Turks and beating the keeper with ease.  Breachwood continued to attack Broadhall and took a first half lead when Kenneford smashed homes after a lofted through ball from Dan Dye.   Breachwood went in at half time 3-2 up.

The second half started with a Breachwood kick off but within a minute Broadhall were back on level terms. Breachwood gave the ball away cheaply and a long ball over the top caused panic in the Breachwoood box, unfortunately complete miscommunication between Ricky Hill and Blobby resulted in an absolute horror goal leaving the Broadhall striker to head into an empty net!  Very unlike Breachwoods solid defensive play so far this season.  Again Breachwood looked shaky after conceding the goal and the game could have gone either way but Breachwood class and new found belief this season showed and they began to attack their opponents causing them problems from all over the pitch.  Turk in centre mid was particularly influential winning every battle in midfield using his brute strength to brush opponents off the ball.  Turk was at the centre of the winning goal, chasing down a long ball he hassled the Broadhall centre-back and muscled him off the ball, laying a square pass for Matt who smashed home the winning goal from 6 yards out!

Breachwood looked happy to settle on their lead and managed to see out a nervy final 20 minutes without Broadhall really threatening the Lions goal.

This week’s Man of the Match was Matt Kenneford, scoring a superb hat-trick.  That was his 5th Lions goal in 3 halves of football and the Lions players and fans will be hoping his form continues over the course of the season.

Next week The Lions travel to legendary Stevenage side Dun Cow for what will be a serious test to their Premier Division credentials.
