Crowland Juniors U13s 2025/2026 travelled to Stanground Sports Centre on 8 March 2026 for a league clash against Stanground Cardea Sports U13, kicking off promptly at 12:00pm. The 70-minute contest, played under the 11-a-side format, ended in a narrow 2-1 victory for Crowland Juniors, securing valuable points on the road.

Crowland Juniors lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, deploying a solid defensive structure with four defenders at the back and a lone holding midfielder shielding the defence. Danny Roberts took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper and made some vital saves. The defensive line consisted of Joshua Thind at right back, Lloris Kanyua and Kaiden Tee as central defenders, and Thomas Nairpour on the left flank. George Ireland operated as the solitary central midfielder just ahead of the back four, tasked with breaking up opposition attacks and distributing the ball forward.

Ahead of Ireland, Crowland Juniors fielded a quartet of attacking midfielders: Josh Santos on the right, Hadi Derbas and Preston Bucknell centrally, and Patrick Ion on the left. Leading the line was striker Miguel Pires, expected to spearhead the attack and convert chances created by the midfield. With Maisie, Kajus and David named as substitutes for this fixture.

From the outset, Crowland Juniors showed intent to control possession and press high, with the midfield four supporting Pires in attack while Ireland provided defensive cover. The first half was a tightly contested affair, with both sides probing cautiously but neither able to break the deadlock before the interval at 35 minutes.

Joshua Thind’s performance switching from right back into midfield was a standout, combining defensive solidity with forward runs to support the attack. His ability to contain Stanground’s threats and contribute to Crowland’s build-up play earned him the player of the match accolade.

The second half saw Crowland Juniors gradually impose themselves more on proceedings. Their persistence paid off as they found the net twice, demonstrating clinical finishing and cohesive team play. Stanground Cardea Sports managed to pull one goal back, ensuring a tense finale, but Crowland’s defensive organisation and composure under pressure ultimately secured the win. The midfield battle proved to be decisive, George and Josh Thind battling hard, Preston in the number 10 playmaker role really came into the game in the second half.

Throughout the match, the 4-1-4-1 formation allowed Crowland Juniors to maintain a balanced shape, with Ireland’s role as the holding midfielder crucial in disrupting opposition attacks and linking defence to midfield. The attacking midfielders provided width and creativity, while Pires remained a constant threat up front.

In the end, Crowland Juniors’ disciplined defensive display, combined with effective attacking transitions, earned them a hard-fought 2-1 victory away from home, boosting their league campaign with three important points. Josh Santos had another excellent match with a goal and assist.

Special mention for Hadi Derbas who was welcome return to the team and managed to run tirelessly throughout the match despite observing his Ramadan fast!

Let’s keep going Crowland!
