Droylsden Pythons travelled to Belle Vue Sports Village Top Pitch on 17 October 2026 for a 7-a-side league away match against Brendon Bees Blacks, kicking off at 10:15am. The Pythons endured a tough 60-minute contest, ultimately succumbing to a 6-0 defeat. Despite some promising moments, the visitors were unable to find the net against a dominant Bees side.
Droylsden lined up in a 1-1-3-1 formation, with Jake Duff guarding the goal. Max Higham took up the sweeper defensive role, while Elliott Walshe operated just ahead in a deep lying midfield role. The attacking midfield trio consisted of Teddy Blunt on the left, Cole Burrows centrally, and Callum Heaton on the right. Leading the line was striker Prince Karim. This setup was designed to provide a solid defensive base with Max Higham shielding the backline, while the midfield trio aimed to support both defence and attack, supplying Karim with chances up front. The substitutes named were Muwaffaq Sanusi, Joshua O’ Reilly, Logan Myerscough, and Roman Arrandale.
The match began disastrously for Droylsden as Teddy Blunt committed a late tackle inside the opening minute, conceding a penalty. Brendon Bees promptly converted the spot-kick with a right-footed finish down the middle in the second minute, setting the tone for the game. Jake Duff immediately responded with a full stretch save to deny a follow-up attempt, keeping the scoreline from escalating further at that early stage.
Droylsden’s striker Prince Karim tested the Bees’ goalkeeper with a shot saved in the third minute, showing early intent to respond. Teddy Blunt also forced a save at the fifth minute, but the visitors struggled to convert their chances into goals. Unfortunately, an injury to Callum Heaton in the sixth minute forced an early substitution, with Muwaffaq Sanusi coming on to replace him on the right attacking midfield.
The Bees capitalised on a defensive error just a minute later, scoring from close range with a right-footed finish to double their lead. They continued their dominance, adding a third goal inside the box at the ninth minute, again with a right-footed strike. Droylsden made another change at this point, bringing on Joshua O’ Reilly for Elliott Walshe into defensive midfield.
Substitutions continued as Roman Arrandale replaced Teddy Blunt at the 13th minute, and Logan Myerscough came on for Max Higham in defence. The Bees extended their advantage further with a close-range left-footed finish inside the box, making it 4-0. Shortly after, Cole Burrows was substituted off for Callum Heaton, who had recovered from injury.
Droylsden’s attempts to claw back into the game were met with solid goalkeeping from the Bees, with Roman Arrandale and Callum Heaton both having shots saved in the 15th and 16th minutes respectively. Muwaffaq Sanusi also saw his effort saved at the 20th minute mark.
The Bees then unleashed a spectacular strike from outside the box in the 23rd minute, a powerful right-footed screamer that left Jake Duff with no chance. Duff responded with a diving save at the feet of an attacker a minute later, showing resilience despite the scoreline.
Joshua O’ Reilly’s attempt went high over the bar in the 26th minute, while Prince Karim’s shot was saved in the same minute. Droylsden made a flurry of substitutions around the 27th minute, with Cole Burrows, Max Higham, and Teddy Blunt returning to the field, replacing Roman Arrandale, Joshua O’ Reilly, and Callum Heaton respectively. Elliott Walshe also came back on for Logan Myerscough at the 30th minute mark, just before half-time.
Muwaffaq Sanusi was replaced by Joshua O’ Reilly at half-time, as the Pythons sought to regroup. Early in the second half, Teddy Blunt’s shot went wide, but Jake Duff was again called into action with a full stretch save in the 32nd minute. Prince Karim committed a late tackle at 34 minutes but did not concede a penalty, and shortly after, he had another shot saved. His subsequent attempt went wide at 36 minutes.
Logan Myerscough returned to the pitch for Max Higham at 38 minutes, followed by Roman Arrandale replacing Cole Burrows and Muwaffaq Sanusi coming on for Elliott Walshe at 39 minutes. The Bees added a sixth goal at the 42nd minute, a close-range right-footed finish inside the box. Callum Heaton came back on for Logan Myerscough at the same time, and Jake Duff made another full stretch save at 43 minutes to keep the scoreline from worsening.
Teddy Blunt replaced Prince Karim at the 50th minute, with Elliott Walshe coming on for Joshua O’ Reilly and Roman Arrandale returning for Logan Myerscough shortly after. Jake Duff continued to impress with a full stretch save at 53 minutes, denying further Bees’ attempts.
Despite the heavy scoreline, Jake Duff’s performance between the sticks stood out as a highlight for Droylsden, making numerous crucial saves to prevent an even larger margin of defeat. The Pythons will look to regroup and build on their efforts in upcoming fixtures after this challenging encounter.
