Match Report vs. Letchworth Albion

Facelad were at home this weekend to Letchworth Albion in the Herts. FA Intermediate Cup 2nd round, in a game which saw facelad make several changes due to availability and injuries the side kept their fine run of form going in a 7-0 thumping overAlbion.

The game started with a Letworth kick off and from the 1st minute you could see the game plan was predominately a long Ariel pass into the strikers to hold the ball and bring the midfielders into play, Facelad started slow with nobody really keeping the ball well.

After a shaky start facelad settled into the game well with some really good spells of play moving the ball across the back 4 and into the midfield really well, a long lofted diagonal pass forward found the overlapping run of J.Scott who crossed the ball into Clynes with a mix up between Centre back and Keeper left the ball behind and an empty net gaping for Clynes to tap home (that’s right people Jerry has scored a TAP IN). 1-0 Facelad.

Facelad not long scored a 2nd when a J. Clynes corner was whipped in, Saxby flicked the ball on but was blocked by the defender, fortunately J. Knott was on hand in the 6 yard box to smash home, Knott’s 1st goal of the season.

Another corner another chance for Facelad the ball seemed to be gobbled up by the keeper but some sloppy defending found Knott in the right place at the right time again to finish and get he’s second of the season but the referee’s whistle blew for a push on a Letchworth defender. No goal.

Half Time – Facelad 2 vs. 0 LetchworthAlbion.

Second Half-

The start of the second half continued with facelad dominating procession and having all the chances, a good run then lay off from the in form Saxby found Alderman who beat the Centre half and found all alone in the 6 yard box Howell who had the simplest of finishes to add a 3rd for Facelad.

Provider turns finisher after picking the ball up on the half way line Alderman plays into Clynes’ Feet who showed good strength to hold the ball well and clipped a perfectly waited ball into Alderman who brought the ball down on the turn run away for the defence and finished off the great move off with a calm side footed finish into the corner of the net.

Wave after wave of Facelad attacks saw some very good chances go begging, pressure off for Facelad now as they clearly had booked there ticket to Round 3 of the cup, Clynes had other plans, a Matt H pass found clynes waiting at the back post and what was to happen next was truly unforgettable for Clynes, who is sometimes guilty of missing the easier chances but not today!! A 2nd goal for clynes and a 2nd tap in, a specialist if you will.

The controversy of the day came from a Facelad corner which the in form Saxby had decided to take. Saxby slices the corner towards goal in which the goal keeper unexpectedly flapped at, GOAL! OG surely? At First the gaffer confirmed the goal was in fact an OG, some may say harshly taunting the opposing manager but after some delay from the FA dubious goals committee sent a letter with the upmost authenticity and they have surprisingly confirmed the ball was on target, goal given to M. Saxby giving the young man he’s 5th in all competitions.

The last goal of the day came from a good run from young left back Billy Roland who has had a stop start campaign to date, Billy managed to Bulldose he’s way from the half way line into the final third, he played a perfectly weighted cross into Matt H, Barton Lawrence and clynes all waiting for a set but Matt H says NO THANKYOU GOAAAL!! Facelad 7 Letworth 0.
