Away league match played on 04 October 2009.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

Fixture four of the season and the boys travelled to Snipe Clough. They arrived nice and early and were confident in finding their first win of the season, with practically the strongest 14 The Rose have to offer the Oldham Sunday League.

When the home team finally arrived and the game got under way, The Rose started bright and created a number of chances, the easiest of which fell to the player manager Dunleavy who fluffed his header wide after some good work from his fellow striker Michael Hoggard, another of the clear cut chances fell to Hoggard who ran clear of the defence and finished well past the keeper into the far right corner only to find he had been ruled offside by the ref who minced over in his cute black and pink outfit.

The rest of the half carried on the same way with The Rose number one only having to gather up long range strikes that never really threatened, more chances come the way of Hoggard who was unlucky not to get on the score sheet, Rose finished the half frustrated to have not taken the lead after being the far better side throughout the half.

At the start of the second half The Rose didn’t really get started and Wellington started to threaten a little more with the long ball Wimbledon style play and the long throw’s to the bulldog did test the back four but they were solid throughout and seen off anything Wellington could “throw” at them.

Fifteen twenty minutes in and the Rose began to play some nice football and on around the 70 minute mark finally got there reward with a ball over the top of the Wellington defence, Dunleavy ran through and with an audacious strike/complete mis-kick finished past the keeper and performed one of the most controversial goal celebrations, Cue the Vengaboys BOOM BOOM BOOM!! Never the less the Rose deserved there lead and continued to pile on the pressure and chances kept coming for the two Rose strikers but they just couldn’t find their composure in front of goals and the birds in the trees were petrified every time they went forward. Towards the end of the game the Rose realised they were to hold onto their lead and threw 5 in midfield and controlled the game with some good possession.

From a great high always has to be a great low, and although the Rose were finally enjoying their football on the 87th minute mark following a late challenge Ingis leaped over the tackle and landed awkwardly and the whole pitch was at a standstill in worry for the talented winger, with the game now abandoned the ambulance service were contacted and the inevitable was Ingis had broken both his fib and tib and looks set to miss most of the season.

I’m sure I speak for everyone at the club when I wish Lee all the best and hope he has a speedy and successful recovery and want to add that the team will try their hardest to raise some funds for him over the next couple of months.
