*Greenock HSFP Black 7 v 1 Johnstone Burgh*
Return to home league action at Lady Octavia this morning against an in-form Johnstone Burgh side, strengthened with some additions from the former Gleniffer D1 squad who folded recently. So we were expecting a a much tougher test than our previous meeting back in September.
But it was the High School made the stronger start and took the lead inside 5 minutes. Ashton’s dangerous corner was only partially cleared by the goalkeeper, and Zack W reacted quickest to fire home from close range. 1-0.
The remainder of the first half was competitive, with chances at both ends. Ashton came closest with a well struck free kick that hit the bar, while Kaiden and Lucas both threatened with their keeper pulling off some good saves. Defensively, lead by stand in captain Bob, stayed organised and limited Johnstone largely to long-range efforts.
Half-time: 1-0
Johnstone started the second half brightly and equalised within the first five minutes when a corner wasn’t fully cleared, making it 1-1.
But that goal sparked a superb response from the High School.
And a few mins later Kieran picked up the ball just inside his own half, beat his man and slipped a perfectly weighted pass through for Mure, who toe-poked under the keeper. 2-1.
Moments later, Kieran got himself on the scoresheet, picking up Zack’s long throw before producing a fantastic finish from the left side of the box over the keeper amd into the top corner. 3-1.
Just a minute later, he did it again! Another trademark finish from Kieran, almost identical to his previous strike, putting us firmly in control at 4-1. Brilliant stuff!
The GHS pressure continued, and the fifth arrived just before the hour mark. Taylor won the ball strongly and fed Ethan, who cut inside the defender and unleashed a brilliant finish into the top corner on his weaker left foot. 5-1.
Jay added the sixth with a cracking long-range free kick, a reward for the excellent striking form he’s shown in training recently. Top notch. 6-1.
And with five minutes remaining, Aaron completed the scoring after another excellent assist from Kieran. Aaron showing composure and finishing well underneath the keeper. 7-1.
That was an superb attacking performance today, particularly during a strong 15-minute spell in the second half where the clinical finishing and quality of goals proved too much for shellshocked Johnstone Burgh.

Coaches’ MotM:
Kieran ?? An easy decision this week. Kieran was outstanding, scoring two cracking goals and two nice assists in the second half. His quality, and attacking threat was a real joy to watch ????
