Back to league business this morning at the Lady O.

It was a bit of a slow start from us today. We took a wee while to get going, with a few sloppy passes and poor decisions in the early stages. Probably a wee bit of nerves given the position we are in, coaches included, and maybe that rubbed off on the boys a little.

Mure smashed the bar with a cracking strike from distance early on, but we didn’t create too many clear-cut chances in the opening exchanges.

Spartinios looked to have set up quite defensively and made it hard for us to break them down, meaning most of our chances were coming from outside the area.

The first goal eventually came around the half-hour mark, Zack laying it off to Bob, who stepped onto it and fired a powerful strike in from around 25 yards. What a goal. 1-0.

A few minutes later it was two in similar fashion. Ethan this time the provider, squaring it to Bob in a similar area, and he produced another cracking strike, this time right into the top left corner. Possibly even better than the first. 2-0.

The goals came at a really good time and helped settled the nerves a little.

In the second half, we really started to take control of the game.

The first chance came in the opening minute. Lucas did well driving down the left wing before firing in a great cross for Dylan to tap in from a couple of yards out. 3-0.

That seemed to knock the stuffing out of Spartinios a bit, who had defended really well in the first half, and from there it was all High School.

The fourth came from a well-worked corner routine the boys have been getting some success with in recent weeks. It eventually fell to Lucas at the edge of the box, and he volleyed it into the top corner. Great finish. 4-0.

Minutes later it was five. Lucas again the provider, driving past his man and putting a brilliant ball across the box to find Kaiden at the back post for a tap-in. 5-0.

Bob grabbed his hat-trick shortly after. A nice Kieran free kick from wide right found Bob, who got there first and finished first time into the bottom corner. 6-0.

Taylor capped off the scoring with another good strike from distance. Lucas’ initial shot was blocked, it fell kindly to Taylor, and he smashed it into the far corner, giving the keeper no chance. Another fine goal. 7-0.

A strong performance from the full squad in the end. Goalkeeper and defence solid again with another clean sheet, midfield dominating possession and creating chances, and the forwards ruthless in front of goal, especially in the second half. And some of the goals were top notch.

Credit to Spartinios as well, who defended really well for the opening 30 minutes and never gave up despite us dominating so much of the ball, so hats off to them.
