*Spartinios City 1 v 4 Greenock HSFP Blacks*
Top of the table clash today between 1st and 2nd and a huge game in the context of the season.
Spartinios started brightly and put us under real pressure early doors. Shammy was called into action a couple of times with important saves, and the defence had to dig deep to keep them out.
On 15 minutes Spartinios capitalised on a mistake from a goal kick to take the lead. 0-1.
The response from the boys was brilliant. No heads down, no moaning. And ten minutes later we were level, through pure determination. Dylan’s persistence high up the park saw him win the ball back in Spartinios’ half and square it to Kaiden, who kept his composure with only the keeper to beat. 1-1.
Spartinios probably edged the remainder of the first half in terms of chances created, and the boys working hard defensively to keep it level.
HT: 1-1
The second half was a different story.
From the restart we were on the front foot.
On 45 minutes a quickly taken free kick from Ashton found Sam, who fed Ethan wide. Ethan delivered an absolute beauty of a cross and Mure rose brilliantly to head home. A superb team goal. 2-1.
Ten minutes later it was 3-1. Kieran with a driving run and a perfectly weighted through ball to Mure, who toe-poked it under the keeper.
And before Spartinios could regroup, we struck again. Kieran once more the creator, slipping Aaron in. With two defenders around him, Aaron showed composure, one touch and a clinical finish into the far corner. Massive goal. 4-1.
From there the boys controlled the game well, bar a final push from Spartinios in the 10 minutes of added time! Not sure where that came from either!.

Coaches’ MotM ??
A really tough choice today with so many strong performances, but Sam takes it for his defensive display covering at right back, strong tackles, important blocks, and a crucial goal-line clearance in the first half at an important time.
Just want to add that we are so proud of the squad today. Huge character shown after going a goal down early and being under pressure. Second half performance was dominant and ruthless when the chances came.
Special mention to all the boys who covered different positions without hesitation, brilliant attitudes and exactly what a squad is about.
And hope Lyle is okay after coming off early in the first half injured.
Top of the table for a reason. ??
