Home league match played on 27 September 2009.
Kicked off at 12:00 PM

What a performance from the boys today against one of the very best teams in the league who the week before won 15-0.  Please KEEP YOUR HEADS UP, our time will come, just very unfortunate the way the fixtures have fallen to play three of the best teams in a row at the start of the season. Their coach was full of praise for you, so well done boys.

First quarter with the wind, we stood up to the task and battled hard against a classy strong Walker side.  We took the lead, when Elliott struck a lovely free-kick from distance and this was deflected into the goal.  We took heart from this and started to pass it around reall well. End of first quarter Guide Post 1 Walker 0.

With Walker having the wind advantage they had a few long range efforts but Aaron did well in goal, while Joseph & James were excellent in defence.  At the other end we went close on two or three occasions, a free kick being palmed away accross the goal from the keeper.  Remember boys always follow up expecting that. Another great quarter. Guide Post 1 Walker Whites 0.

Again it was end to end stuff in the third with both teams having chances to score, Walkers persistence finally paid off when unfortunately we miss kicked the through ball and from the resulting scramble Walker scored.  We didnt let this effect our confidence though and it was very much an even game.  Guide Post 1 Walker Whites 1. James made some spectacular blocks in this quarter, while Joseph, Sam and Elliott were superb in midfield.

Final quarter again against the wind, we had all the work to do, but we stuck to our task superby and still managed to attack ourselves.  With only a couple of minutes to go, unfortunately another defensive error, playing the ball accross goal rather than up field or to side resulted in a cool finish from Walker Whites to snatch the victory.  We still battled to the end and had a another free kick at the end, which was well blocked by the Whites.  Final Score Guide Post 1 Walker Whites 2. Much credit to an excellent sportsmanlike team from Walker and the refferee who had a superb game, what a difference a week makes!

Such a brave performance and if we had a bit more luck in front of goal it is a game we could have got the three points from.  We will though take away lots of positives, with our best peformance of the season so far.  Keep playing like that and we WILL WIN a lot more than we lose.   Man of the match given by Walker Whites Coach went to Elliott, good work skipper!  To me it could have been any one of four, James, Joseph, Sam and Elliott were excellent throughout, while Aaron made some really good saves.  Up front Taylor worked hard after Josh did, while at the back Liam not used to the defensive role tried his very best. Unlucky with the mistakes Ryan, you did a lot right as well,  so lets remain positive and keep up the performance when we play our friends from Whitley Bay in what should be another close game next week.

Training 5.30 this Wednesday School Field.
