Tornadoes storm to victory!

This was a deserved victory for the boys, as they had much the better of the chances in another physical encounter against Whitley Bay Boys Club.  Both sides battling very hard through out the game, look forward to round three in a few weeks time. A wonder strike from the wonder strike specialist Josh won the game for us.

FIRST QUARTER - Line up Aaron, Sam, Harry, Josh, Elliott, Joseph Dylan Sub James

Aaron had a very quiet quarter, as with the wind we had the better of the game, on 3 mins Sam shot went straight to Dylan just in front of the keeper but he couldn't just deflect the ball in.  A couple of minutes later Elliott drilled in a free kick on the right and Josephs shot was blocked.  Best chance fell on 6 minutes another good ball through to Dylan, but he just took it a little too far and the impressive keeper blocked it.  At the back Sam was sniffing out the danger, and Aaron didn't have a save to make. End of first quarter -0-0

SECOND QUARTER - James replaced Harry

James had a strong start to his game reading the game well, putting the ball through to Dylan who again was crowded out by defender and keeper.  On 18 minutes Elliott crossed well for Joseph who shot first time but the keeper made a super save  A few minutes later Joseph turned provider putting Dylan away but again the keeper made a smart save from a strong shot.  The pressure did pay off when a ball was cleared to Josh a long long way out but he composed himself and belted hard into the wind, and it dropped perfectly just under the bar leaving the keeper no chance. At the other end Aaron struggled to deal with a long shot and Sam had to be alert to clear the ball off the line. While Sam & James generally had a lot to do in this quarter but worked like Trojans. 1-0 Tornadoes

THIRD QUARTER - Harry replaced Josh

With the wind advantage again, we had the better of this quarter, Joseph putting a nice through ball to Dylan and his good shot was once again well saved.  A few minutes later Dylan set up Joseph who shot powerfully and it just went wide.  Elliott then passed nicely for Dylan but the keeper again did well to keep us out.  At the other end Sam & James continued to have very strong games, and restricted Whitley to some half chances. Tornadoes 1-0

FOURTH QUARTER - Josh replaced Harry - then Harry came on for Joseph.

Whitley had much more of the game in the last quarter while tempers flared, and Aaron had much more work to do, but good handling was order of the day, while Sam & James scrambled excellently to keep Whitley out. We still continued to hit them on the break, Joseph's shot just going wide, Dylan having one saved, and then just hitting another shot just wide of the post. While Elliott also went close with a shot just going wide of the post. It was a nervous last few minutes, but the boys saw the game out for a superb win against a very strong and attractive Whitley Bay side. Well done all the Tornadoes!

Every player played their part in a really hard working team performance. Aaron good hands, strong goal kicks, James - very strong read game superbly Harry - worked hard, just need to be a bit stronger on the ball - Josh - Another wonder goal, and good commitment. Elliott - All action great display in the middle Joseph - Very good display nice passing, much better attitude shown, Dylan led the line superbly, held his own against a couple of excellent strong defenders, great performance, but just pipping Dylan and others for man of the match was Sam, a simply stunning defensive effort, tackled everything, blocked well, battled hard cleared the lines well, fantastic Sam!

Away coach gave the man of the match award to Dylan just ahead of Elliott.

A successful weekend for both U9 sides, well done all the Squad!

Training 6pm Tuesday St Benet Biscop.
