TWO HAT TRICKS SIGNAL FINE WIN FOR GUIDE POST OVER CORBRIDGE

Guide Post welcomed two competive debutants in Grant Brown (after months on injury) and Liam Besford (after 18 months in the wilderness - or the Golf course as it's better known !!).

Competition has been fierce between Grant and George for the starting spot up front and both fully justified their selection by bagging three goals apiece. This fixture looked on paper as though it was going to difficult with Corbridge thumping their first two league opponents with 16 goals scored. Guide Post were without starting players Ryan Young and Andrew Robson but still fielded a strong and capable squad.

The home side took an early lead on 8 minutes after some determined play by Aaron which saw him win two tackles, chase down the loose ball and follow up on a shot by Grant which the keeper could only parry. He slooted home from a tight angle to give Guide Post the lead.

Two minutes later a long range efoort from thirty yards by Jack Taylor at left back struck the bar. A second goal came on 14 minutes with George turning inside the box and striking a sweet low shot past the stranded keeper.

The tide was firmly with Guide Post now and on 18 minutes a corner from Ross fell to Reece Bosomworth at the back post who struck a drive which climbed over the bar.

On 23 mins Grant got his opener with a very cool close range finish again from a Ross Moore corner. Two minutes later he was on the score sheet again with a good low shot which seemed to take a bobble and go over the sprawling keeper to make it 4 - 0. On 26 mins Callum Pattison who was playing in the middle with Ross struck a drive from the edge of the box which just cleared the bar.

The half ended with a goal for Corbridge as an innocent through ball was left by both the retreating Reece Brown and Liam Halliday, both seemed to think the other had it as the Corbridge striker nipped in to finish coolly.

At half time Adam Boyd was repleced at right back by Lee Robinson and Aaron was replaced by Liam Besford.

Liam almost scored after just 4 mins when he gat on the end of a move by Grant and Ross but fired over the bar. On 41 minutes another fine move ended down the right with a point blank save by the keeper from a low stinging Reece Bosomworth drive. On 42 minutes Callum struck from outside the box only for the busy Corbridge keeper to parry the ball over the bar. From the resulting corner George got his second coolly side foot volleying Ross's corner into the net.

The restart saw a great piece of interplay between George and Grant with a couple of quick one twos leading to a strike from Grant.

George got his hat trick on 53 minutes with an almost identical side foot volley from a Ross corner to make it 6 - 1. George was then replaced by Adam Boyd who came on up front.

Lee Robinson at right back made a number of forward runs and on 54 mins almost scored with his close range shot blocked on the line by a defender.

On 58 minutes Grant got his hat-trick with a tap in after Liam Besford had made a break on the left and struck a shot/cross which went to the back post for Grant to pounce.

With the score at 7 - 1 a couple of substitutions were made. In the very last minute Corbridge got a consolation goal after a visionary piece of play saw Lee Robinson thread an almost inch perfect pass between the two immaculate Guide Post centre halfs for the Corbridge striker to strike low past Liam. 7 - 2 was the final satisfying score.

A great team performance with some good football played.
