GUIDE POST HELD IN SEASON OPENER BY DETERMINED PRUDHOE

The league season opened extremely early at Guide Post with a home fixture against familiar opponent from last season - Prudhoe Yellows. Both sides were missing players, Guide Post were without Andrew Robson (partying in the Balearics I believe !!) and Grant Brown (fractured wrist from some kind of extreme sporting accident - thats his wages stopped!).

The home team were slow out of the blocks and went behind after just 4 minutes after a jittery start and poor communication between goalie and defenders allowed Prudhoe to take the lead. After the poor start Guide Post settled a bit but were still guilty of not being calm on the ball and all too often gave possession away cheaply. A long range speculative shot from Prudhoe on 12 mins sneaked in at the foot of Liam Halliday's right post. Liam seemed to think the shot was going wide and should have played safe and covered the shot. 2 - 0 flattered the visitors a little at this stage and Guide Post at last pulled their socks up and began to play fluent and attractive football particularly dangerous down either flank. The central midfield team of Ryan Young, Jack Taylor and Ross Moore began to dominat exchanges with Ryan falling deep to cover the defence leaving Ross and Jack to create. Ross Moore was his usual createful self leading some of the opponents a merry dance at times and feeding great balls to both wingers. It was from one of these slick moves that Guide Post pulled a goal back on 31 minutes with Callum Pattison getting in behind his full back and beating the keeper at his near post with a low drive. The home side more than deserved this goal having dominated the previous ten minutes. Prudhoe still looked dangerous on the break and were resorting to long punts upfield chased by the astonishing quick left winger. Unfortunately for the home side Prudhoe won a free kick just before half time on the left. The cross was knocked in but Liam was unable to hold onto the ball which dropped in the box. Prudhoe were the first to react and made it 3 - 1 from close range. A disappointing end to the half.

The second half saw a much more determined and self disciplined display across the whole Guide Post team. Chances were created frequently but many were scorned by poor finishes or bad decision making. George and Reece Bosomworth seemed to be struggling a bit for pace and just as the 'expert' manager was about to substitue Reece Bos he pulled out a peach of a cross which was met at the back post by Callum to volley home his second goal from an acute angle. The pressure was constant now from Guide Post with almost all the 50/50 tackles going their way and some lovely creative play from the midfield of Adam Dixon, Reece Brown and Ross. They were rewarded on 58 minutes when George at last caught one right and drilled a great shot past the outstanding Prudhoe keeper who'd minutes earlier dived and tipped a shot round the post from Ross.

Prudhoe were now under the cosh and hanging on. Guide Post continued to push forward but couldn't find the winner. At the final whistle most of the team seemed dissapointed but to come back from 3 - 1 down showed great team spirit and maturity from the boys.
