AT LAST!!! The boys got what they deserved!

In the stunning surroundings  of Bushy park, on a pitch that mums and their washing machines love, GCP secured their first league victory of the season. A new formation was tried with Maric acting as sweeper, Sean and Benny able to push up on the flanks, with T holding midfield and Sammy and Lucca upfront.  From the start the traffic was all one way and within 3 minutes GCP were 0-1 up. Another 1st, a goal from a set piece. A great corner was delivered from Sammy, Lucca got to the ball first and knocked it home.  GCP then went hunting for a second goal but on a small pitch that was very congested no real opportunities came for the boys. Teddington were restricted to break away attacks and had two terrific shots that was matched by two terrific saves by Liam on 15 minutes. This led the team to reach half time in the lead.

The second half was more of the same. GCP took advantage of the bowling green manicure grass to pass the ball around with great effect. The pressure was all one way with Teddington restricted to break aways that got cleared up by Maric, who then turned it into another attack with some superb passing out from defence.

T spent his time doing an impersonation of “Storming Norman” closing down players, passing up to the front two and being everywhere at once.

Sean, Benny and Harry made sure that the wings were either covered defensively or pushed forward to get in some great crosses.

However there was one final piece of drama. In the desire to get another goal, Maric was left isolated and a one two for the Teddington attack left their striker with a 1 on 1 with Liam. After a moment’s hesitation, Liam charged out and bravely smothered the shot. More superb keeping.

Blood pressure at bursting point, the final whistle came before an ambulance had to be called and cue woops and screams of delight………………from the parents! Appologies to the Teddington  parents but this was a long time comeing.

A point to mention was this was perhaps the coldest game the lads have had to play and I would have sold my soul for some thermals. So they all get bravery badges just for getting on the pitch.
