Cup Hopes Go West!!! First Half Blitz Seals Tie

Heyside dreams of cup glory were left in tatters after a disastrous first half display against league 2 outfit West End Boys.

With Lennon unavailable and Joel held up in traffic the game kicked off without both of our regular centre backs. West End capitalised on this and were soon in a commanding position as a series of missed tackles resulted in 6 first half goals flying past poor George in the Heyside goal.

You wouldn't have thought so from the scoreline but at times the boys had played some really good football and Louis in particular was causing West End lots of problems down the right side of the pitch. A few chances went begging and there were strong appeals for a penalty when Matty was bundled over just as he seemed certain to force the ball over the line after the keeper had spilled a shot from Louis.

The second half was a much more even affair and although George was forced to make a couple of excellent saves the boys certainly gave a much better account of themselves as the teams shared 4 goals to make the final score 8-2 to West End. Matty deflected a shot from Jack past the keeper for our first goal and was then on the spot to hit his and the teams second goal, after another shot from Jack had been pushed out by the keeper.

We certainly missed Lennon today but possibly deserved slightly better than the scoreline suggests. Back to league action next week against Withington - heads up boys this was only 1 game let's get back to winning ways!!!

The A team did everything they could to peg back the 6 goal deficit and on another day could well have taken the tie to at least penalties but for some inspired keeping from the West End keeper and several near misses as the West End goal led a charmed life!!

MOM: Another good display by Jake made him a deserved winner of the award.
