Ouch!!! Heyside Fall to First League Defeat

Waterloo inflicted our first league defeat of the season as they came out on top by one goal to nil today at Wright Robinson Sports College.

This was a game which I expected us to win and although the performance was possibly our worst so far this season, overall we had created the better chances and could consider ourselves a little unfortunate to get nothing out of the game.

Illness and injury played a part as leading scorer Matty was forced to miss out and then skipper Lennon was forced off before half time with a foot injury that prevented him from returning for the second half.

The highlight of the first half saw some neat passing which ended in Louis sending over a great cross which Luke couldn’t quite finish as the ball fizzed across the face of the goal. Luke again showed some neat touches and was behind most of our best forward moves today.

It wasn’t to be today but credit Waterloo who had certainly improved from our earlier meeting and defended really well to keep us at bay. We finished the game on top with the benefit of the strong wind at our backs but the passing and shooting was all a bit hurried and we are clearly lacking a little in confidence at the moment.

Despite a succession of corners the closest we came to scoring were a couple of shots from distance from Jake and Joel. At the other end I don’t think George had a save to make due to great work from Joel, Lennon and Jake who were well supported by Ryan and Jack.

I’m sure this was just a blip though boys – nothing a bit of hard work and a couple of wins won’t put right!

MOM:  A really solid performance at the back today from Joel as he defended with great determination and strong tackling along with excellent clearances.

He almost capped his display with a great goal and just edged out Luke for the award.
