Midway 4 vs 3 Hobgoblin FC

<p>After the final whistle blew on Hobgoblin yesterday, the team was left scratching their heads wondering how another victory was cruelly taken from us. <p>A good first half and early pressure from the 'Goblins secured a 2 goal lead. Sonny Ball using his Usain Bolt-esque pace to latch onto a chip over the top from Dale Robbins, sliding it passed the 'keeper and finishing the rebound from the post with a well crafted shin. Just 3 mins gone and the 'Gobs go one up. 0-1 <p>The second was a great example of shoot-on-sight, as some great build up play kept them pegged back in their half. Some composure and a neat pass to Hobbie Stuart allowed him to make the most of the space he had created and let fly from outside the box, drilling it low passed the 'keeper to the bottom left. Well taken. 0-2 <p>After half an hour you could see we were just starting to switch off a little. We weren't competing for the headers, we were falling too far back, and getting a bit too reluctant to make that first tackle. Loosening our grip on the grip showed as they managed to claw one back in the 37th minute as we failed to clear a lofted ball into the box. 1-2 <p>Another disappointing goal to concede right on the stroke of half-time as their forward managed to bring down a ball in the area and round Kyle for a finish that was too easy. <p>Much of the first half was to be positive about, as we played - yet again - the better football. Better communication was needed in the middle of the park to ensure the gaps were closed, and that we shouldn't have to drop too deep. <p>&nbsp; <p>The 'Goblins started the brighter in the second half, and went ahead with a neat bit of work from Hobbie again. At long last one of his little tricks pulled off(!), and took him past their left back brilliantly creating time for a cross which looped over the 'keeper and into the net. A fluke, yes, but completely deserved after that skill. 2-3 <p>&nbsp; <p>As much as I would like to avoid writing about a referee, yet again I am left with no option. A corner for Midway was taken towards the near post with their player managing to get a toe on it to poke it round the post for a quite obvious goal kick. All the players started making their move back to their defensive positions, but for some reason the ref called another corner. "I heard it come off a player's boot" said the ref. "That's all very well..," said Fraser, "but I actually saw the boot it came off". <p>Inevitably, this decision eventually led to a goal. 3-3 <p>It was looking like going to extra time, but a last gasp attack in the 90th minute for them saw a free kick unfortunately spilt and the first toe to stab at it was one attached to a Midway player. <p>&nbsp; <p>Undeserved loss at the expense ofone awful refereeing decision. Ultimately we can't rely on any of them, so we will have to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and make sure we do it ourselves as a team.&nbsp; <p>Great positive from the game was that we were all brilliant as a unit. No petty arguments disrupted our flow, and we were supportive of one another the full 90mins - as we should be. Much better attitude.
