Away league match played on 26 October 2008.

First league game of the season and a seven nil victory away from home, what more could you ask for? I would ask for discipline. As footballers we have to be able to speak and be spoken to and not feel it is a personal attack on our ability as we all want what’s best for the team and that is victory with enjoyment.

Considering the possession and domination we had in the first half, the game should had been well and truly over but what will always come back to haunt you is not putting the ball in the back of the net as the other team will always feel they are in with a chance regardless of the possession percentage.

For me, for us to come in only one nil up was a travesty in itself but to watch the players having a go at each is the biggest crime of all as Lambeth Classics is not about that and in the next coming weeks a few players will have to be told some home truths as no one player is bigger than the team and if we can’t all speak the same language on the field then we will have to look at alternatives because what is frightening is, we haven’t really been tested this season because we step up a gear when we’ve really need to, but what is going to happen when we play and we are under a little pressure for a few minutes? Are we gonna start moaning and sulking or focus on the task ahead to put it right?

Anyway after coming in one nil from a Glenroy McCalla strike, the boys were given a task to prove they are not puss*** (In my words as that what I called them at half time) and can actually go out and prove they are men who are able to communicate in a effective manner to the man who is wearing the same colour shirt as him as well as put the ball in the back of the net to cement our dominance.

Six goals in the second half partially answered the question, as on our day we will cut anybody open but we must be the only team that can cut ourselves open and plant a self destruct button inside!!!

What was really funny though was the reaction of the other team, they were getting battered but at no time did I hear any of their players niggle or destroy his team mates confidence and many times there players would look at me and quote, “ If you’re like this when you’re winning, what are you like when you are losing”?? What could I say to that apart from put a fake smile on.

Second half goals from Gill, Lam, Earl, Calvert (2) and a classy solo effort from Chris Daley knocked the stuffing out of Old Hamptonians and was a just revenge for the two nil loss last season.

Hopefully the result will be a bench mark of our intentions this season, but the boys will have to understand, the more they win the more other teams will want to beat them.

A big shout out to the back four as it is know 360 plus minutes since we conceded our last goal and a good conversation after the game gives me confidence that that run will continue.
