In what can be described as an amazing turn of events the miracle we were looking for (see last week) only went and fell in our laps with Saturdays opponents Shenfield after fielding ineligible players were deducted 20 points.  This meant against all odds the mighty Maidonians who have had a meek season were given a life line to move out of relegation.

So with a renewed sense of vigour and a 3 o’clock kick off (and Jeff was still late) we arrived at the Globe and found the police on sight.  Turns out the previous game had gun threats or something but no better man than Ged the owner to get sorted.

Back to the game, we took to the pitch with Jason back in the heart of midfield the first time since he threw his boots away on the first game of the season.  After 10 minutes Vinny decided that the game looked boring so threw the ball out to the opposing forward who returned it in kind with a pass to his other forward and 1-0 down.   Things were a little disjointed after that Davey who was suffering with a calf strain was struggling to get into the game and came off after 30 mins to be replaced with Squelchy.

A wonderful piece of management by Chris as within 5 minutes of taking the pitch we were awarded a free kick which was deftly put round the wall and into the back of the net by Squelchy at which point Chris was heard saying when did he come on…..

The Maiden wave continued and to be fair the last 20 minutes of the half was some of the best that we have played all season.  Tony had a cracking shot saved by their keeper and the momentum was on our side when Jason popped up and scored a header from a scrambled corner.  2-1 half time.

After coming back from a piss thinking how well we played Armageddon was happening on the line and inspired love in team talk between Chris and Jeff saw us taking to the field with lots of love in the air.  An incident packed second half where we missed at least 3 clear chances and Chris cleared one of the line saw the game end in a 2-1 victory (and first one in at least 6 weeks).

Was one of our best performances of the season and a double bonus as nobody went home with gun shot wounds.

The great escape is on…………..

A special mention must go to the linesman Bob who without such inspired flag work and parenting skills this victory wouldn’t have been possible.  We should sign him up next year.
