[X-League Division 5] - Match Day 25/8

MWFC 1 : 0 ALCOLYTES FC

Scorers: Anron Koh
Assist: Edwin Loi Xue Qian
MOM: Clayton Soh

Yellow Cards: Ryan Mok, Kelvin Lim

A much anticipated match finally kicked off under the scorching sun at Turf City. A new match venue, new league, new opponents, new start & of course, a newly prepared Midland Wolves Football Club.

Most players from pre-season XI started, however Aloclytes FC managed to have the upper edge above us in the opening minutes. With just 15mins played, they already had 7 shots went blasting into our area.

Things were moving slowly for Wolves but we eventually picked up the game and went on scoring our first league goal. Chye received a through pass from Edwin just at the edge of the box, he found space, did a couple of stepovers and managed to fake the 3 defenders off balance and placed the shot into the top corner and back of the net. "WHAT A GOAL!"

The goal was a morale booster for Wolves, players looked much sharper and motivated after we took the lead. We then went on to play our usual game, quick attacking play was displayed. Wingers had a good game to run down opposition defenders and managed to get the ball into the box, just that we dint managed to convert them into goals.

Alcolytes FC were more organised, had better distribution of play and also a greater number of shots on goal. Equipped with proper training, they managed to be more consistent in their plays, shaved off our defense and was able to test Clayton on numerous attempts. However, Clayton shown a brilliant goalkeeping display and managed to keep MWFC in the driving seat, he was literally everywhere in the right time to keep the ball away from our posts.

Jj Fong was an unsung hero as usual, he kept the midfield compacted and shield off every opportunity that opposition thought they had. He also kept a good job on distribution of play, keep it up!

Our fullbacks today had a shaky game, many close encounters came by but luck was on our side. There is alot of pointers to be improved and it will be taken into consideration for future games.

Overall, even though with a win for our debut game, we still have alot of room for improvement. Especially on the distribution of the ball and also our consistency of play, we must improve on our passes to allow us to be comfortable to string passes in game. Defensive wise, even with a off-side trap played, wingers need to track back more often to support fullbacks to prevent them from facing a quick attack / diagonal through balls just like what we faced during Babylon match.

Still, GOOD DEBUT WIN WOLVES! Keep the morale up and carry on playing!

Players fielded: Clayton, Adrian, Alastair, Deepak, PC, Hanxiang, Kelvin Lim, Qiyi, Benjamin, Melvin, Edwin, Anron, Welson, JJ, Wenjie, Raymond, Weihao, Ryan, Benedict
