Mile Oak Football Club welcomed Poets Corner to Southwick Hill Recreation Ground on 12 October 2025 for a league home match kicking off at 2:00pm. The hosts produced a stunning attacking display to secure a resounding 13-1 victory in an 80-minute contest plus added time. From the outset, Mile Oak dominated proceedings and never looked back, leaving Poets Corner overwhelmed by the sheer volume and quality of goals.
Mile Oak set up in a 4-5-1 formation, deploying Archie Gunn in goal behind a back four of Charlie Montgomery at right back, central defenders Josh Boarer and Kingsley Roussel, and Jude Butler at left back. The midfield five featured Harrison Franklin-Lester on the right wing, Tyler Mugridge, Will Newton, and Stan Churchyard centrally, with Charlie Morton operating on the left. Up front, lone striker Tyler West was tasked with leading the line and capitalising on chances created by the midfield. This formation was designed to control the midfield, provide width from the flanks, and support the striker with plenty of attacking options. The substitutes named on the bench were Finley Howarth, Olle Webb, Isaac Samagh, Pip Aspey, Herbie Woolin, and Izac Woodward.
The match exploded into life within the first minute when Stan Churchyard opened the scoring, giving Mile Oak an immediate advantage. Just two minutes later, Tyler Mugridge unleashed a spectacular screamer from outside the box, expertly set up by a short pass from Harrison Franklin-Lester, doubling the lead to 2-0. Mugridge then added a second goal of his own in the seventh minute, further extending the lead and setting the tone for a relentless attacking display.
Tyler West got in on the act at the ninth minute, finishing off a move expertly assisted by Franklin-Lester, who was proving to be a constant threat down the right flank. The visitors were already struggling to contain the hosts’ fluid attacking play. The 17th minute saw Franklin-Lester himself find the net, converting an assist from substitute Herbie Woolin, who had come on by this point, to make it 5-0.
Mile Oak made their first substitution in the 23rd minute, with Finley Howarth replacing Charlie Morton on the left midfield. Later, in the 39th minute, Olle Webb came on for Jude Butler at left back, freshening up the defensive line. The half ended with Mile Oak firmly in control at 5-0.
At the 44th minute, Samagh scored his first goal, assisted by Olle Webb, continuing the goal glut. Just six minutes into the second half, Izac Woodward, who had replaced Harrison Franklin-Lester in the 53rd minute, added his name to the scoresheet with a goal in the 50th minute. Woodward doubled his tally at the 59th minute, demonstrating the depth of Mile Oak’s attacking options.
Franklin-Lester, despite being substituted earlier, returned to the scoresheet at the 60th minute, followed swiftly by another goal at the 62nd minute, this time assisted by Isaac Samagh. The visitors finally managed to get on the scoresheet at the 76th minute, but it was a mere consolation in the face of Mile Oak’s dominance.
Isaac Samagh continued his impressive contribution with a goal at the 70th minute. Tyler West, having been replaced earlier, also found the net again at the 73rd minute, showing the strength of Mile Oak’s attacking rotation. Franklin-Lester capped off the scoring spree at the 74th minute with a goal assisted by West, bringing the final tally to an astonishing 13-1.
Harrison Franklin-Lester was deservedly named player of the match for his relentless energy, creativity, and goal-scoring prowess throughout the game. Mile Oak’s comprehensive victory was a statement of intent in the league, showcasing their attacking depth and tactical flexibility. Poets Corner were left to rue a day when they were simply outclassed from start to finish.
