Under 11’s MPE Sports Match Report

MPE Sports slipped to their third successive defeat against a formidable soon to be league champions South Park Colts FC, in a game which turned out to be a battle of strengths.

The manager’s selection placed Jacob Williams [GK], Connor Simmonds, Billy Tidman, Jamie Pye, Oliver Hewitt, Jack Amos, Kian Murdin and MPE Sport’s newest signing Joshua Jackson [JJ] first out, with Harry Goodwright and Josh Ashdown in the wings as appointed substitutes. No Aaron Wood this week due to illness [I hope he feels better soon].

First Half:

With the mighty Sports still wanting a win, all eyes were on a slightly modified formation with MPE Sport’s latest signing Joshua Jackson aka JJ slipping into a more central defensive role.

MPE blasted out of the blocks as the whistle blew for the first half, with a good interception runs from Kian Murdin who was unlucky not to find the right foot of the ever pacing Jack Amos.

South Park Colts were quick to break and moved the ball confidently around midfield and it wasn’t long before the trusted hands of the Sport’s #1 goal keeper Jacob Williams was tested.

The newly formed back three in the guise of Connor Simmonds, Billy Tidman and JJ were working well, clearing their lines when needed.

A confident run by Oliver Hewitt on the right wing forced the play deep into the visitors half, but it was South Park’s number 10 who open the scoring as the MPE Sports got caught sleeping in midfield, giving the visitors a one gaol lead [0-1].

South Park continued to pile on the pressure with MPE Sports Jacob Williams being tested again. Good blocks from JJ and Connor Simmonds snubbing out another attack from then visiting team.

Good movement by Sam White released Jamie Pye, who was unlucky not to capitalise on a shot on goal.

The second goal came some 20 minutes in and was almost identical as the first, as the visitors carved through midfield placing the visitors two nil up [0-2].

Team changes placed Harry Goodright on for Kian Murdin, who with his first tough of the game released Jack Amos who was again denied by the on form South Park keeper.

A dubious decision in the centre of the field placed the home side three goals to nil down [for obvious reasons I have not gone into much detail regarding said decision] - [3-0]

The score didn’t really reflect the effort these boys were putting in, South Park Colts were a tough team and strength was definitely on their side.

A crunching flurry of legs left Oliver Hewitt injured and was unable to carry on [we hope you are fit and well for next week’s game]

It was Josh Ashdown who replaced the injured Oliver Hewitt on the right for the remaining 10 minutes of the first half.

Second Half:

The MPS boys started a little slower that at the start of the second half, with the majority of play being dictated by the visiting side. It was only the quick reflexes of MPE’s number one goalkeeper Jacob Williams that denied another goal.

A handball in the area gave the mighty MPE Sports a slight glimmer of hope as the referee awarded a much needed penalty. It was the South Park goal keeper who was on exceptional form who saved a rocket of a shot from young Amos.

The management team changed the formation slightly, with Sam White swapping with Billy Tidman. The turning point came 12 minutes into the second half with a Jack Amos goal from a pitch perfect cross from Josh Ashdown. The boys were starting to grow in confidence, making the vital tackles when needed [3-1]

It was the big number six that hit the fourth goal for the visitors from just outside of the area giving the visiting side a four one advantage [4-1]

Suburb run form Josh Ashdown, adding much needed pace on the right almost adding to his goal tally with a shot just off target.

It was Jamie Pye who hit the back of the net with a phenomenal left boot strike from just inside the area, taking the home side to four two [4-2].

Josh Ashdown rattled the crossbar from a beautifully taken free kick.

The boys were really battle for control and the third game some 25 minutes into the second have from the head of MPE Sports super striker Jack Amos [4-3].

Final Score: MPE FC Sports 3 – South Park Colts FC 4

Match reporter’s final comment: These were formidable opponents with league presence. Regardless of the score, the boys were really playing as a team, the movement on and off the ball was a real pleasure to watch. The midfield players took a while to warm up but worked tirelessly throughout the second half with a strong defensive wall this team [when playing like this] will be difficult to beat.  I [and the parents] was so proud watching the game turn around, I think another five minutes of game play and the final score would have been different. Well done boys.
