MEFF #43 – BUBBA’S PINK SH@FT 4 – 4 BAGPUSS 8 (-1):

With Aidan sipping Calpol back at home, Phil Gandy became the new challenging captain as his team, Bagpuss 8 (-1) took on the still unbeaten Bubba’s Pink Shaft. With Bagpuss dominating the chances in the first half, they raced to a 2-0 lead with Patto and Crozier in goal(s) only having to make a few blocks with their feet, while Brett saw a volley go narrowly over. Steels was in fine form to keep his team in the game as Bagpuss created the chances through Luke, SuBo and Fletch, but couldn’t add to their tally.

As tiredness crept in to the game, Bubba began to find more space and they eventually took the lead thanks to some scrappy goals finished from counter-attacks as Griffiths and Kieran used their pace to great effect. Despite being lobbed for a goal by Gandy, Steels continued to make fine close-range saves and frustrate Bagpuss, denying SuBo, Crozier, Patto and a diving header from Captain Tubby, before Fletch (once again) scored a valuable equaliser with his last touch of the game!

0-1: Patto(SuBo fed a weighted ball down the right channel and Patto turned to shoot across Paul into the far left netting)

0-2: SuBo(Fletch flicked on Patto’s header to the edge of the box, where SuBo carefully volleyed through a crowd of players into the goal)

Half Time

1-2: Spence(Phil P wrestled the ball down the right wing and passed to the back post where an unmarked Spence slid the ball under SuBo in goal)

1-3: Phil G(Immediately from the kick off, Luke passed the ball back to Phil G, who lobbed the stranded Steels with a lofted finish from his own half)

2-3: Griff(Griffiths crossed across the face of goal and Griffin bundled home a finish under SuBo)

3-3: Spence(Racing down the right wing, Griffiths floated a delightful cross to the back post, where a leaping Brett headed against the post, with the ball bouncing off Gandy’s back and rolling along the line for Spence to tap home)

4-3: Griffiths(Spence fed the ball to Griffiths on the left wing and he finished well with his left foot)

4-4: Fletch(With the last kick of the game, Fletch latched on to SuBo’s pass down the left wing, and finished clinically inside the far right post)

Men of the Match were Phil G (for the second week running) for “scoring from half way” and Steels, for “some great saves, although did he did stand 15 yards off his line and get lobbed!”
