First game of the season, and half the squad away! Potten End is BACK!

Some acrimonious departures, new players and some good old regulars started the new campaign. Of course it wouldn't be Potten End if we didn't have a comedy start.......so with that in mind, I turned up late and hung over, the Don later still (some would say he wasn't there for the first 20 minutes!). On that note, we were two zip down inside of a quarter hour. This despite having the lion-share of the ball. 20 minutes in and a bollocking from the old stager that is Paul Nolan got our season got underway. Dale had already had a couple of sighters before some good left hand side link up sent him away for a very direct run and cross, drawing the OG from a bemused defense. In short order The Machine finished some smart wing play and a deadly pinpoint cross from Simmo.

Half Time. Some words of wisdom from a visiting Steve Hewitt, observing that the Next goal would settle the game.

For the first time ever, Potten set out to prove the Hewitt correct (could this be the best thing he has ever done for the Rotten?). Some solid midfield work from Jonny & Diego put the lively Alkie in to win a corner. The subsequent mêlée produced a scrambled edge of boxer for Gav to smash home 3-2. Game on! Of course we had to concede a pen 3 seconds later via Diego (LEFT BACK!!!). 3-3 D-oh! The introduction of new boy David produced some good moments, Rahul having softened them up with 65 mins of tireless running. Diego making amends for the penalty set The Machine clear to make it 4-3. Queue the obligatory equalizer............. 4-4.

So there it was all to win. Hewitt validation? Alkie and David had all the answers (David the Goal). 5-4 Potten WIN!

See you all next week folks!
