Away league match played on 30 March 2014.
Kicked off at 10:00 AM

A nice touch from the Highworth coach, as it's Mother's Day, getting the Mum’s from both teams to go on the pitch and shake hands with the players before the match kicked off.

Top v bottom match, but Highworth not to be taken lightly, bearing in mind, although bottom of the league, had won their last two matches, against Ramsbury in the Wiltshire County Cup semi final and Shrivenham in the league.

Another scrappy start, but probably due to the 10 o’clock start and everyone losing an hours sleep as well, which may have also explained why a few tasty tackles were being made from both sides.

However, Purton soon started to take a hold of the match, using the advantage of the slope on the Highworth pitch, plus, whether inteneded or not, the height of the Highworth goalie as Purton were putting in several high balls into the Highworth penalty box.

Purton win a corner, which Louis takes, and scores direct from the corner. 1-0(9mins). A free kick from Ryan from distance nearly goes in. A cross from Louis, Ryan does a looping header, beats the goalie, but hits cross bar.

Good inter play between Louis and Matt then onto Charlie who narrowly misses. The niggling tackles are still flying in and Fraser gets booked for dissent. Halfway through the half  Declan comes on for Tom in the Purton goal.

Purton win another corner, which Louis, again, takes and again scores directly from it 2-0 (28)

Half time 2-0

Subs Jay for Toby.

In the second half, Highworth were beginning to get more of the ball, due to the slope, but Purton still having the better of the play. Charlies takes a shot at goal and the Highworth goalie pulls off a brilliant save, but can only parry it out into the path of Louis who bangs in his and Purton’s third goal of the match 3-0 (43).

Highworth win a corner, the ball is allowed to go across Purton goal and they score 3-1(47). However, Purton bounce right back, Andy wins the ball in midfield, holding onto the ball then puts a through pass to Matty, who strikes the ball into the back of the net. 4-1(48)

Highworth still showing a bit of fight, win a corner only for the ball to hit the crossbar

Purton win a free kick, Ryan floats in a lovely ball, James Winfield leaps up to head the ball back across the Highworth 6 yard box and Jordan is there to head the ball into the goal.

5-1(62)

Sub Sam for Ryan

Purton win another free kick, Fraser takes it this time, which is cleared out of the Highworth penalty box straight to Matty who just lashes it back and into the goal. 6-1(70)

Sub Dan for Andrew, Denners for Charlie

Fair play to Highworth, not going down without a fight, go on the attack, a pass from their own half splits the Purton defence and score. 6-2 (75).

That’s how it ended, 6-2 a good result for Purton, as this could’ve been a bit of a banana skin, bearing in mind Highworth’s recent results.
